The Territorial Police in Katwe are holding Nakanwagi Gladys Rebecca, a 57-year-old woman, following allegations of assault that reportedly took place in Kavule Zone, Katwe–Makindye Division, Kampala District. The incident has attracted public attention, especially at a time when communities are being urged to remain calm and peaceful.
According to preliminary police findings, the incident occurred on 9th January 2026 at around 7:00 a.m. It is alleged that Nakanwagi Gladys grabbed Namutebi Mariam, a 65-year-old woman, by her T-shirt during a confrontation. In the process, the victim was assaulted and her clothes were torn, causing distress and concern among residents in the area.
Police officers responded to the matter and arrested the suspect, who is currently being held in custody at Katwe as investigations continue. Authorities say statements are being recorded and all necessary procedures are being followed to ensure the matter is handled fairly and according to the law.
The case file will be forwarded to the Office of the Resident State Attorney for legal review and further guidance. This step will help determine the appropriate charges and the next course of action in the case.
