National Unity Platform (NUP) Vice President for Buganda, Hon. Muwanga Kivumbi, has been arrested again, just hours after he was granted bail by court.
According to reports, Kivumbi was intercepted at a roadblock in Mpigi District while travelling from Butambala towards Kampala. Witnesses said he was stopped by security personnel before being taken away and driven to an unknown destination.
The latest arrest has raised concern among his supporters and opposition figures, who are questioning the circumstances surrounding his detention, especially coming shortly after he had secured his freedom through the courts.
Kivumbi, who is also the Member of Parliament for Butambala County, has been a prominent figure in Uganda’s opposition politics and a strong supporter of the NUP party. His arrest has added to growing tensions between opposition politicians and security agencies ahead of the 2026 general elections.
NUP officials have condemned the arrest, describing it as a sign of increasing pressure on opposition leaders. They are demanding that authorities explain the reason for his detention and reveal his current location.
The incident has attracted public attention, with many Ugandans expressing concern over repeated arrests of political figures and calling for respect for legal procedures and citizens’ rights.
As of now, the exact reason for Kivumbi’s latest arrest and where he has been taken remain unclear. His supporters are waiting for more information from his legal team and party officials.
