Uganda is mourning the death of General Moses Ali, one of the country’s most respected military officers, politicians, and statesmen, who passed away at the age of 87. General Ali, who departed this life today at 4:25 p.m. at Nakasero Hospital, leaves behind a long legacy of public service, leadership, and dedication to Uganda.
Captain Mike Mukula, a close friend and fellow patriot, expressed deep sorrow following the passing of General Moses Ali, describing him as a distinguished patriot, freedom fighter, and elder statesman whose contribution to Uganda’s history will remain unforgettable.
In his condolence message, Mukula quoted the Islamic verse, “Innā lillāhi wa innā ilayhi rājiʿūn,” meaning “Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we shall return,” as he reflected on the loss of a man who dedicated much of his life to serving the nation.
Mukula praised General Moses Ali for his role in promoting peace, national unity, stability, and reconstruction. He described him as a courageous soldier, a wise leader, and a humble elder whose commitment to Uganda inspired many leaders and citizens across generations.
Born on 5 April 1939, General Moses Ali built a remarkable career as a military officer and politician. Over the years, he served Uganda in several high-ranking positions, including as Second Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy Leader of Government Business in Parliament. His decades of service made him one of the country’s longest-serving public figures.
Captain Mukula extended his heartfelt condolences to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the Government and people of Uganda, the family of General Moses Ali, the people of Adjumani District, the West Nile Sub-region, and all Ugandans mourning the national loss.
He said General Ali’s legacy was not only defined by the positions he held but by the lives he touched and the contribution he made toward building Uganda. According to Mukula, his life demonstrated patriotism, sacrifice, courage, and commitment to public service.
As Uganda mourns the passing of General Moses Ali, many citizens are remembering him for his long journey of leadership and dedication to the country. Although he has left this world, his contribution to Uganda’s history will continue to be remembered by future generations.
Mukula prayed that Almighty Allah forgives General Moses Ali’s shortcomings, grants him mercy, admits him into Jannatul Firdaus, and gives strength and comfort to his family and all those grieving his passing.
