A viral video showing a man holding a panga and threatening people at a restaurant recently caused a wave of fear and concern across social media. Many believed it was a real and dangerous incident, but after a thorough investigation, the Kampala Metropolitan Police revealed that the scene was not what it appeared to be.
According to police reports, the dramatic video was actually a staged comedy skit, filmed at Chez Boss Mutoto, a restaurant located in Munyonyo. The incident involved a Congolese national named Tokosi Ngoli and a TikToker who were trying to create online content. However, the skit was poorly planned, and most of the people at the restaurant were not informed that a performance was taking place.
What was meant to be a funny online video turned into a serious matter. Tokosi Ngoli was arrested and charged with being armed in public. Even though it was a fake scene, carrying a weapon in public, especially in a way that causes panic, is considered a crime. His case file has since been sent to the State Attorney for further action.
Police have strongly advised the public to be more cautious when creating or sharing content online. They stressed that while the video was not of a real crime, it still caused unnecessary fear and confusion among viewers. The authorities also reminded content creators to always inform people and seek permission before involving them in skits, especially in public places.
This incident highlights the importance of responsible social media use. While creative videos are a big part of online culture today, they should never put people at risk or spread fear. The police continue to monitor such cases and urge everyone to verify content before reacting or spreading it further.
