The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has praised the remarkable progress made by the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) Air Force, during a vibrant graduation ceremony at the Uganda Air Force College on July 3, 2025.
In his speech, Gen Muhoozi reflected on the long journey the UPDF has taken—from its early days as a guerrilla movement with no air power, to becoming one of the most promising air forces in Africa. He described the transformation as impressive and urged the graduates to continue raising Uganda’s flag high through excellence and dedication.
More than 500 trainees successfully completed their training, including pilots, pilot instructors, aircraft operators, and engineers. These fresh graduates are now ready to join the UPDF in its mission to become a more professional and capable force. The CDF encouraged them to master their skills and become some of the best airmen and women on the continent.
General Muhoozi didn’t stop at encouraging hard work. He strongly warned against corruption within the UPDF. “There will be no mercy for the corrupt,” he said firmly—a statement that was met with loud applause from the graduates and other invited guests. He reminded everyone present that UPDF funds must be used for the right purposes to support development and welfare.
In addition to the graduation ceremony, Gen Muhoozi commissioned several new infrastructure projects at the Air Force College, including housing units for soldiers. This move is part of a broader effort to improve the working and living conditions of UPDF personnel, especially those serving in the Air Force.
The Commander of the Air Force, Lt. Gen. Charles Okidi, expressed his gratitude to the CDF for his vision and strong leadership. He acknowledged the steady improvements in Uganda’s air capabilities and credited the CDF for pushing the Air Force to greater heights.
Brigadier General James Muhwezi, the Commandant of the Uganda Air Force College, praised the dedication of the graduates and assured the nation that they are well-prepared to serve. He also thanked the CDF for his continuous support, especially in developing the training facility’s infrastructure.
This graduation marks not only the success of individual trainees but also a powerful symbol of UPDF’s progress. With better equipment, stronger leadership, and highly trained personnel, Uganda’s Air Force is clearly reaching for the skies.
