Ensuring Fair Elections!! EC and Police Meet to Harmonize Campaigns Across Uganda

Must read

The Electoral Commission (EC) and Uganda Police are holding a key meeting to assess the progress of the ongoing Presidential campaigns across the country. The meeting, which will be chaired by the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Justice Simon Byabakama Mugyenyi, is scheduled to take place at the EC headquarters on 7th Street in Kampala.

Julius Mucunguzi, the EC spokesperson, said the gathering aims to bring together all Presidential campaign agents to share their observations on how the campaigns have been conducted so far. “We want all agents to provide their views on what has worked well, the challenges faced, and what still needs to be done to ensure a smooth campaign period,” Mucunguzi explained.

The meeting will also involve all Commissioners and staff of the Electoral Commission, who will listen to the agents and harmonize the next steps. This is part of efforts to ensure that the remaining campaign period for Presidential candidates is conducted in full compliance with the laws and guidelines set out by the Electoral Commission at the beginning of the campaign period.

Mucunguzi further revealed that the meeting will provide important guidelines for the upcoming campaigns of Members of Parliament (MPs), which are set to start on November 10, 2025. As the Presidential campaigns enter their second month, the EC and Police will use this platform to ensure that MP campaigns are organized in an orderly and lawful manner.

The meeting is therefore seen as a critical step to maintain fairness, transparency, and security during the electoral process. It will help both the Electoral Commission and Police to monitor progress, address concerns, and provide clear instructions to all candidates and agents ahead of the parliamentary campaigns.

With the elections approaching, the EC emphasizes the importance of cooperation among campaign agents, candidates, and security officials to ensure peaceful and credible elections across the country.
