The Uganda Police Force in North Kyoga Region has arrested three individuals for allegedly attempting to bribe a UNEB scout in a bid to influence the upcoming Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE). The arrests were made in Lira City following a tip-off to the authorities.
The suspects include Odongo George, Director of Atura Community Day Primary School; Ekut Simon, 32, a former teacher at the same school; and Awoko Lavoiser, 26, a teacher at St. Gracious Primary School in Barapwo, Lira City West Division. They reportedly tried to bribe Ayoo Christine, a UNEB Scout assigned to Oyam District, with one million Uganda Shillings (UGX 1,000,000) in UGX 50,000 notes to compromise the integrity of the national exams.
Police say the suspects were caught at Garden Hotel in Lira City, where the money was recovered and exhibited as evidence. The case is now registered under Lira City Central CRB 626/2025, and investigations are ongoing. Once completed, the suspects will be presented in court.
SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, the Regional Police Public Relations Officer, warned the public and anyone involved with UNEB activities against attempting any form of malpractice. He emphasized that the police, working closely with UNEB, would not hesitate to arrest and prosecute anyone trying to compromise the credibility of national examinations. “The long and indomitable arm of the law will firmly reach out to all offenders, regardless of their status or connections,” he said.
The Uganda Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the integrity of national exams and ensuring that justice is served without fear or favor. Authorities say the arrests serve as a strong warning that exam malpractice will be met with swift legal action.
