Security agencies have made a significant breakthrough in the fight against violent crime in the Kampala Metropolitan Area. Between 24th and 27th January 2026, police conducted an intelligence-led operation in Kiti A Zone, Kirinya Parish, Bweyogerere Division, Wakiso District, resulting in the arrest of five suspects linked to a series of aggravated robberies. During the operation, officers recovered three firearms, three magazines, and other crucial evidence.
The suspects, identified as Amutuhairwe Robinson, a discharged former army personnel, Okello Daniel, a guard working with Fortebet, Kasango Arafat, Luyirika Joseph Innocent, and Alphonse Daniel, reportedly confessed to their involvement in several serious crimes. Among these is the murder of ASP Bagenda Emmanuel, the Officer-in-Charge of Ntawo, who was shot dead on 23rd November 2025 along Ntawo–Nyenje Road, Mukono District, while responding to an armed robbery.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the group has been involved in multiple aggravated robberies across the Kampala Metropolitan Area, with a particular focus on mobile money robberies. Security agencies have emphasized that efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend additional suspects connected to these crimes.
Police have commended their officers for their professionalism, dedication, and courage during the operation, reassuring the public that all violent criminal acts will be thoroughly investigated and brought to justice. This development marks a major step in restoring safety and security in Kampala and its surrounding areas.
