The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has joined the global community in observing Data Privacy Day 2026, highlighting the importance of safeguarding personal information in an increasingly digital world. This year’s theme, “Prioritize Privacy by Design,” underscores the need to integrate privacy measures into systems, services, and decision-making processes from the outset.
In today’s technology-driven era, privacy is not just an afterthought—it is a fundamental right and a cornerstone of trust between individuals, organizations, and governments. By adopting a “Privacy by Design” approach, institutions can protect citizens’ rights, build confidence, and promote responsible innovation across the digital ecosystem.
Speaking on the occasion, UCC emphasized its ongoing commitment to creating a secure, transparent, and privacy-respecting digital environment for all Ugandans. The Commission urged businesses, service providers, and individuals to adopt proactive measures that embed privacy into every stage of digital interaction.
As part of the celebrations, UCC will continue to raise awareness on best practices for data protection, ensuring that privacy becomes an integral part of Uganda’s digital transformation journey.
