Members of Parliament (MPs) are set to enjoy a long-awaited celebration tomorrow, January 30th, after skipping their 2025 end-of-year party. Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa announced that the party, which was postponed due to MPs being busy with elections, will finally take place at Parliament. He encouraged MPs to attend and make the most of the event, noting that it is a chance to relax and celebrate after a hectic year.
Parliament has allocated a whopping Ugx 7,886,000,000 specifically for entertainment and welfare, highlighting the importance placed on the wellbeing and morale of lawmakers. While some critics have questioned the size of the budget, Parliament maintains that such events are part of fostering unity and creating a positive working environment for its members.
The announcement comes after a busy election period, during which many MPs were focused on campaigns and political duties, leaving no time for the traditional year-end celebrations. The party is expected to be a lively event, with plenty of food, music, and entertainment, allowing MPs to unwind and celebrate their hard work over the past year.
Deputy Speaker Tayebwa reassured the lawmakers that this party will be a memorable one, and urged everyone to join in the festivities. This marks a rare occasion for MPs to come together outside the formal setting of Parliament, strengthening bonds and enjoying a well-deserved break.
