Veteran Broadcaster Allan Kasujja Gets Top Government Communication Role

Must read

President Museveni has appointed veteran broadcaster Allan Kasujja as the new Executive Director of the Uganda Media Centre, marking a major change in the leadership of the government’s communication hub. The appointment was revealed in a letter dated December 27, 2025, showing the President’s direct involvement in the decision. The letter was addressed to the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, and was written in response to concerns about management issues at the Media Centre.

In the letter, President Museveni said he had not been aware of the ongoing manoeuvres at the institution. However, he noted that the idea of appointing Allan Kasujja had already been discussed earlier at senior leadership levels. This shows that the decision was not sudden but part of earlier talks among top government officials. Museveni made it clear that he had already guided the Minister of ICT and National Guidance, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, to put the appointment into action.

The President further directed that formal procedures to confirm Kasujja’s appointment should begin immediately. In the same communication, which was also copied to the ICT Ministry, Museveni said other leadership positions should also be reviewed, including who could serve as Deputy Executive Director. This indicates that broader changes could be coming at the Media Centre as the government works to strengthen its communication structure.

Allan Kasujja is widely known for his long career in broadcasting and media, making him a familiar face in Uganda’s media industry. His experience is expected to play a key role in shaping how government information is shared with the public. He replaces Ofwono Opondo, who stepped down in April 2025 to pursue elective politics, ending his long service at the Media Centre. Kasujja’s appointment signals a new chapter for the institution as it aims to improve its operations and public engagement.
