In a major boost to boda boda riders in Kawempe, Afande @AigpDamulira handed over 300 brand-new motorcycles at Growers Playground. The motorcycles were purchased using the 100 million UGX injected into each SACCO by President @KagutaMuseveni, aiming to support local transport operators and improve their livelihoods.
The handover ceremony was attended by excited riders who expressed gratitude for the government’s support. Afande Damulira urged the riders to take full advantage of the opportunity by using the motorcycles responsibly. He emphasized the importance of following traffic rules, ensuring they have all the necessary road permits, and maintaining the bikes properly to maximize their benefits.
Beyond safety, Damulira reminded the riders to focus on their work and make the motorcycles a source of sustainable income. He advised them against engaging in political rallies or activities that do not directly improve their businesses, urging them to prioritize their livelihoods and take pride in their new assets.
The initiative is part of a broader effort to empower local SACCOs and improve economic opportunities for boda boda riders across the country. By providing modern and reliable motorcycles, the government hopes to increase efficiency, reduce accidents caused by old and poorly maintained bikes, and enhance overall service quality for passengers.
Riders who received the motorcycles expressed hope that the new machines would help them earn more, support their families, and elevate their status in the community. Many said they would now be able to transport passengers more safely and quickly, improving their daily earnings and making a meaningful impact on their lives.
Officials at the event highlighted that this support is not just about handing over motorcycles, but also about promoting discipline, safety, and professionalism in the boda boda industry. They encouraged the riders to embrace these principles to build trust with their customers and maintain a positive image for the sector.
The handover reflects the government’s continued focus on grassroots empowerment and infrastructure development. By investing in boda boda SACCOs, authorities aim to strengthen local transport systems, create employment opportunities, and contribute to economic growth in urban areas like Kawempe.
As the 300 riders took their new motorcycles home, the atmosphere was one of excitement, hope, and commitment. The event serves as a reminder that when citizens are empowered with resources and guidance, they can improve their livelihoods, adhere to safety standards, and contribute positively to their communities.
