The Ministry of Internal Affairs (Uganda) on Thursday held an official handover ceremony marking important leadership changes within the Department of Citizenship and Immigration Control.
The event was presided over by the Permanent Secretary, Joseph Musanyufu, who oversaw the transition of several senior officials in the department.
During the ceremony, Maj Gen Apollo Kasiita-Gowa officially handed over his role as the Chief of Citizenship and Immigration Control.
His responsibilities were temporarily taken over by Col Geoffrey Kambere, who now serves as the Acting Chief of Citizenship and Immigration Control.
At the same event, Brig Johnson Namanya handed over the office of Commissioner for Citizenship and Passports Management.
Assistant Commissioner Murari Moses was appointed to take over the position as Acting Commissioner responsible for citizenship and passport services.
In another leadership change, Assistant Commissioner Marcelino Bwesigye assumed the role of Acting Commissioner for Borders and Foreign Nationals Management.
The department is responsible for managing immigration services, border control, and regulating the stay of foreign nationals in Uganda.
Speaking during the ceremony, Musanyufu urged the new leaders to continue strengthening service delivery and uphold professionalism in their duties.
He also thanked the outgoing officials for their service and contributions to improving the country’s immigration system.
The leadership transitions are expected to ensure continuity in the operations of the immigration department as it continues serving Ugandans and visitors.
