High Court in Kampala has denied bail to Dr Kizza Besigye and Hajji Obedi Lutale.
The duo have been on remand since November on treason charges, which carry a maximum sentence of death.
This goes without saying that the duo presented substantive sureties.
The president has been pushing courts to not give bail to suspects believed to have committed capital offences.
Bail is a constitutional right, but the presiding judicial officer or judge has the discretion to grant or deny bail.
Justice Rosette Comfort Kania cited the grave nature of their offence and the fact that investigations are still ongoing, according to her ruling on April 11, 2025.
