Bobi Wine’s Nomination Ready!! NUP Questions Electoral Commission Over Signature Rejections

Must read

The National Unity Platform (NUP) has announced that it is ready to formally nominate presidential candidate Bobi Wine on Tuesday, September 23. The party says it has successfully collected over 18,000 signatures from 18 districts, meeting the minimum requirements set by the Electoral Commission (EC).

NUP Secretary General, David Lewis Rubongoya, confirmed the figures during a press statement. He emphasized that the party is fully prepared for the nomination process and has mobilized significant support across multiple districts in Uganda.

However, Rubongoya raised concerns over the EC’s handling of NUP’s submissions. He revealed that signatures from 50 out of the 130 districts submitted were rejected, even though the EC accepted those of President Yoweri Museveni.

Rubongoya has challenged the EC to provide a full explanation for this discrepancy. He said that the public deserves transparency and clarity on why NUP’s verified support was partly dismissed while other candidates faced no such issues.

Observers note that this development could heighten tensions between opposition parties and the Electoral Commission ahead of the 2026 elections. NUP’s move to push forward with Bobi Wine’s nomination signals the party’s determination to participate fully, while calling for fairness and accountability in the electoral process.
