The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) have warned cattle thieves after killing two armed suspects during a security operation in Northern Uganda.
According to Col David Opeero, the Deputy Commander of the 5th Infantry Division, the UPDF got a tip-off on Tuesday afternoon about suspected cattle rustlers who had crossed into Uganda from South Sudan. Soldiers from the 75 Battalion quickly acted and followed the suspects to Pii Pee Village.
During the chase, the UPDF clashed with the armed men. One suspect, identified as Oryema Payas from Obutuce Village in Namukora North Sub-County, Kitgum District, was shot dead. The second suspect was also killed in the operation.
Col Opeero said the army will continue working hard to stop cattle theft, especially in border areas. He warned that anyone who tries to steal livestock or cross into Uganda with illegal weapons will be dealt with seriously.
The UPDF has promised to keep the region safe and protect the property and lives of people living in Northern Uganda.
