Police in Wakiso town council swiftly responded to a daring armed robbery attempt early this morning at DTB Bank in Kkona East village, resulting in the death of one suspect and the arrest of another.
At around 1:30 AM, authorities received an urgent call reporting an ongoing armed robbery at the bank. Upon arrival, officers found the suspects hiding in the bank’s ceiling. After issuing orders for the suspects to surrender, police deployed tear gas to force them out. However, the situation escalated when the robbers cocked their weapons, forcing the officers to open fire.
One suspect, identified as Okao Emmanuel, 27, was fatally shot during the operation. The second suspect, Okello Justine, also 27, surrendered and was taken into custody.
According to police, both men were private security guards employed by G.K.O Security Limited and were assigned to the bank’s night shift. Investigations reveal the pair had conspired to rob the very institution they were tasked to protect, even removing their uniforms to aid their escape plan.
A case of Attempted Aggravated Robbery has been registered, and the body of the deceased has been transported to the city mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Further investigations into the incident are ongoing.
