Police have arrested a mother and her daughter after the mysterious disappearance of Wani James, a 50-year-old South Sudanese man living in Katooke, Kisimu.
Wani James had not been seen for days, and neighbors became worried. When asked, his wife told the community that he was admitted at Mulago Hospital. But her story did not add up, and people grew suspicious.
Police were called in to investigate. During questioning, the daughter shocked everyone by saying that her stepfather had been killed by her mother and then his body was burned.
Police have now opened a murder case. Several witnesses have given their statements. Wani’s body has been taken to the city mortuary for a postmortem to find out exactly how he died.
The mother and daughter are now in police custody and being questioned further. Reports also show that the home had a history of domestic violence.
