In a move that has sent ripples through Uganda’s political landscape, Hon. Muhammed Nsereko has officially unveiled his own political party the Ecological Party of Uganda. This bold step follows his decision to distance himself from other opposition alliances aiming to unseat President Yoweri Museveni in the 2026 general elections.
Known for his independent voice and outspoken stance in Parliament, Nsereko is now taking his political ambitions to the next level. He has announced his candidacy for the presidency under the banner of his newly formed party, signaling a significant escalation in his political journey.
Outlining his vision, Nsereko said the Ecological Party of Uganda will soon embark on an expansive national recruitment drive. The aim is to field candidates across the country and position the party as Uganda’s leading progressive political movement.
Distinct from other opposition platforms, Nsereko stressed that his party will uphold principles of peace and non-violence. He was quick to distance the party from the militant imagery associated with groups like the National Unity Platform (NUP), promising a non-sectarian organization open to all Ugandans, regardless of background.
