A tragic and disturbing incident has shaken the community of Kansanga, Makindye Division in Kampala, where a police officer was brutally attacked while on duty.
The victim, Police Constable Adiru Augustine, attached to the Counter Terrorism/VIP Protection Unit (CT/VIPPU), was reporting for his night shift at the residence of Mr. Mugisha Herbert, a high-profile individual residing in the area. The attack occurred around 8:00 PM on the evening of May 31, 2025.
According to the initial police report, PC Adiru was ambushed from behind by unknown assailants. The attackers managed to overpower him and rob him of his service pistol. Shockingly, they then used the stolen gun to shoot him multiple times targeting his left hand and head. In addition to the weapon, the robbers also took his personal belongings, including his mobile phones.
What makes this case even more concerning is that after the attack, an unknown person transported the seriously injured officer to a nearby police station on a motorcycle. Despite his critical condition, this unknown Good Samaritan ensured that PC Adiru got help. From there, he was urgently rushed to Mulago Hospital for medical treatment by a police team led by Corporal Erasu Tonny.
The case has been officially recorded as aggravated robbery under case reference CRB 921/2025. As of now, police have not yet visited the scene of the crime, but investigations are ongoing, and more details are expected to emerge.
This shocking attack highlights the dangers faced by security officers even while protecting others. The hunt for the attackers is now a top priority, and the public is urged to cooperate with police efforts to bring the culprits
