Police are investigating the theft of two rifles loaded with 120 bullets from security officers guarding a top oil official’s home in Katale Bukwenda Cell, Kyengera Town Council, Wakiso District.

The incident happened on Saturday night, May 3, 2025, at around 10:22 PM at the residence of Mr. Irumba Clovis Bright, a director at the Petroleum Authority of Uganda. According to police, the rifles belonged to two counter-terrorism officers attached to the Oil and Gas Unit.

Officer PC Opio Godfrey said he moved the rifles to the veranda while waiting for his colleague, who had delayed in Kampala. When Mr. Irumba’s driver arrived and hooted, the officer went to open the gate. He left the rifles covered with a warm suit. But when he returned, the rifles were gone.

The house had no CCTV cameras, and only Mr. Irumba, his wife, and children were inside at the time.

Police visited the scene, including top officers like SP Kacuumu Robert, DPC Nsangi, and crime investigators. A canine (dog) team also responded but couldn’t trace the suspects due to heavy rain.

The two police officers have been arrested as investigations continue.
