Calvin Echodu’s Home Coming Event Draws Unstoppable Crowd in Soroti This Saturday

Must read

A huge crowd filled Soroti Sports Ground on Saturday to welcome Calvin Echodu in a major homecoming event that quickly turned into a strong show of public support. What started as a celebration quickly became a moment that many believe could change the future of Eastern Uganda.

Echodu, who recently announced he will run for NRM Vice Chairperson – Eastern Region, gave a powerful and emotional speech. He connected with the people by speaking about their daily struggles, and his passionate words received loud cheers throughout.

“I know that some of you came here without lunch or breakfast. I know times are hard,” Echodu said at the start of his speech, showing he understands the hard economic conditions many people are facing.

“But I want to speak to you today with one message; there is hope. God has a plan for this country and our region. And President Museveni has a mission to transform Uganda.”

He promised that the time of “empty promises” is over and encouraged people to take action.

“We cannot pretend anymore. The time for patience has expired. It is time we put words into action,” he said, to which the crowd responded with loud applause.

Echodu also called for unity among the people of Eastern Uganda and Uganda at large, saying that working together is the only way to bring real change.

“We are tired of suffering. We are tired of being unemployed and unable to pay our bills. But we can change that if we work together,” he added.
Echodu made sure to switch between English and local languages so that everyone could understand his message.

He strongly spoke out against corruption and promised to bring a new kind of leadership, one that is honest and focused on the people.

“We are tired of leaders who blame others while our people suffer. Those days must end!” he said.
The event brought together many different groups, from the religious and cultural leaders, youth organizations, women’s savings groups, religious leaders, and local government officials. Organizers said it was one of the biggest public meetings in Eastern Uganda in recent years. Many people believe it could mark a major change before the 2026 general elections.

In a move that was seen as both kind and smart, Echodu contributed Shs500,000 to each of 13 village savings groups from Soroti City East and West. Two boda boda associations were also given Shs4 million each. When giving the donations, he told the groups:

“Become champions of change. Help the President. Together, we can make Uganda a place where we enjoy living.”

At the public meeting, Echodu endorsed his support for President Museveni’s development plans for the country, and now with his renewed bid for leadership at NRM CEC, there is all indication big changes are coming within the party in Eastern Uganda. As one youth leader said after the event, “The wind is changing direction.”

With the 2026 elections getting closer and the battle for CEC positions heating up, the warm reception at Echodu’s home-coming event is proving to be more than just a warm welcome; it may have started a new political wave in the East
