Police in Kampala have arrested 21 people, including two women, following a series of robberies and attacks that took place on the afternoon of June 28, 2025. The incidents happened around 2:00 pm near the National Theatre and UBC roundabout area, a busy part of the city. The suspects were dressed in yellow T-shirts and blended in with crowds heading to Kyadondo to attend the nomination event of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
According to police reports, the suspects took advantage of the large crowd to commit crimes. They targeted people who were on their way to the political event, as well as motorists, pedestrians, and business owners in the area. Victims were robbed of personal belongings and, in some cases, assaulted during the attacks.
Police used footage from security cameras (CCTV) to track down the criminals. The suspects were later arrested from different parts of the city. Some were caught at the scene, while others were found hiding elsewhere. They are currently being held at the Central Police Station (CPS) in Kampala and at Wandegeya Police Station as investigations continue.
One of the suspects got injured while trying to escape from the police. He is now receiving medical treatment under police watch. Meanwhile, the police are still reviewing CCTV videos to find other people who may have been part of the crimes.
The victims have already recorded statements to help police with the case. The case file is being prepared for court, and the suspects are expected to face charges related to simple robbery and assault.
Police have asked anyone else who may have been attacked or robbed but has not yet reported to come forward and help with the investigations. Authorities promise to take every report seriously and ensure justice is served.
