Bukasa village in Wakiso district was the scene of a violent robbery on May 10, 2025, where two motor vehicles were forcefully taken in two separate but connected incidents. The stolen vehicles included a white Toyota RAV4 with registration number UAL 130P and a white Toyota Harrier with registration number UBR 645J.
According to police reports, these were not ordinary thefts but serious cases of aggravated robbery, meaning force or violence was used during the crimes. The cases caused alarm among residents and prompted a fast and serious response from law enforcement.
Investigators quickly turned to technology to help them track down the stolen vehicles. Through CCTV monitoring, police were able to trace the movements of the stolen Toyota Harrier. Their investigation led them to SS Bar and Gardens in Mukono town, where they found the vehicle parked.
Working together, the Flying Squad Unit and Wakiso Police planned a swift operation. They moved in and recovered the Toyota Harrier. During the raid, two suspects were arrested at the scene. The suspects are now being held at Mukono Police Station, where police have recorded statements from them to help build the case.
The prime suspect in this robbery, however, is still on the loose. His name is Lwanyaga Joseph, a mechanic by profession. According to police, Lwanyaga is believed to have orchestrated the entire robbery. He is no stranger to the law—he had previously been arrested for similar crimes and was released on police bond.
Senior Superintendent of Police P. Onyango, who is also the Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, confirmed that Lwanyaga is now a wanted man. Police teams are actively hunting him down, and efforts to bring him to justice are continuing.
This case has raised concerns about repeat offenders who are released only to return to crime. Police have urged the public to be alert and report any suspicious activity that may help in tracking down the suspect.
Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Lwanyaga Joseph is encouraged to contact the nearest police station.
