The Director of the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) of the Uganda Police Force, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Magambo, has come out strongly to dismiss false information circulating on social media. A WhatsApp message has been widely shared, wrongly linking his name to the ongoing family wrangles between Professor Katerega and his wife. AIGP Magambo has described these claims as false and misleading, warning the public against believing or spreading unverified information.
He reminded the public that the Uganda Police Force had already addressed this matter through the Police Public Relations Officer. At that time, police made it clear that the dispute between Professor Katerega and his wife is a civil matter. Such issues, he explained, are best handled through lawful civil channels and not through criminal investigations. As a result, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations has no mandate or authority to intervene in the case.
AIGP Magambo further clarified that he has never met Professor Katerega or his wife at any point in his life. He stressed that any suggestions that he knows them personally are completely untrue. According to him, these claims are being pushed by diversionary forces with the aim of confusing the public and damaging reputations, and they should be treated with the contempt they deserve.
In his message, the CID Director urged well-meaning Ugandans to ignore the false claims and remain focused on what truly matters. He called on citizens to act responsibly, avoid spreading rumours, and instead concentrate on their shared duty of building and protecting the nation. He reaffirmed the commitment of the Uganda Police Force to professionalism, truth, and serving the country with integrity.
