CID, SHACU Investigate UGX 1.5 Billion Mismanagement at Uganda Music Promoters SACCO

Must read

The @CID1_UG (CID), in liaison with the @AntiGraft_SH (SHACU), has summoned leaders of the Uganda Music Promoters SACCO to assist in investigations into the alleged mismanagement of UGX 1.5 billion. The funds were provided to the SACCO in January 2026 as a revolving fund meant to support music promoters and boost the local entertainment industry.

According to sources, concerns arose when the SACCO failed to account for the utilization of the funds, prompting the anti-corruption authorities to step in. CID and SHACU officials have emphasized that the purpose of the inquiry is to ensure transparency and accountability, and to determine whether the money was used according to its intended purpose.

The Uganda Music Promoters SACCO, which brings together industry leaders and event organizers, has faced increasing scrutiny over financial management in recent months. Officials summoned are expected to provide records, reports, and explanations regarding the allocation and spending of the UGX 1.5 billion.

Both CID and SHACU have urged all stakeholders in the music industry to cooperate fully with the investigations. They warned that any misappropriation of funds will be treated seriously and could lead to criminal charges against those found responsible. The move is seen as part of broader efforts by the government to strengthen oversight of public and private funds in cultural and creative sectors.
