Controversy Grows Over Automated Traffic Fines!! 80% of Revenue Going to Private Company

Must read

Leader of Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi has officially written to the Minister of Works and Transport to express serious concerns over the way the Electronic Penalty System (EPS) is being implemented across the country. Through a statement posted on his social media platform, Ssenyonyi highlighted growing frustration and fear among road users, saying the system’s current enforcement is causing more harm than good.

While the original idea behind the EPS was to improve road safety and reduce traffic violations, Ssenyonyi says the actual rollout is raising red flags. Motorists are complaining about being unfairly targeted or charged without proper explanation. Many believe the system is being used more as a money-making tool rather than a road safety measure.

Even more troubling, according to Ssenyonyi, is the fact that a private company known as Joint Stock Company Global Security is in charge of implementing the program. He revealed that 80% of the money collected from traffic fines is going to this company, leaving only 20% for the government. This revenue-sharing arrangement has sparked outrage, especially since the company reportedly has no known background or experience in managing such systems.

Ssenyonyi also reminded the public that this project had been previously rejected in Parliament through a minority report, which was later adopted by the entire house. He questioned how and why the program is now being rolled out despite that decision, calling the entire process suspicious.

The statement has added pressure on government officials to clarify how the EPS project was approved and whether public interests are truly being protected. Many Ugandans are now watching closely to see how the Ministry of Works and Transport will respond to the growing backlash.
