CORRUPTION!! Chairperson and District Commission Bosses Nabbed for Selling Government Jobs

Must read

In a major anti-corruption operation, the Chairperson of Mpigi District Local Government, Mr. Ssejjemba Martine, along with two senior officials from the District Service Commission, has been arrested for allegedly taking bribes in exchange for jobs. The other two arrested are Mr. Kirumira Fredrick, Chairperson of the District Service Commission, and Ms. Nakamoga Sarah, the Commission Secretary.

The arrests were carried out by the Anti-Graft Unit (@AntiGraft_SH) in partnership with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (@CID1_UG). This action follows a direct order from President Yoweri Museveni. During his recent visit to the Greater Mpigi area on June 17, 2025, as part of the Parish Development Model (PDM) monitoring tour, the President was informed by local journalists about serious corruption in the district’s recruitment system.

According to reports, the District Service Commission had turned government job opportunities into a money-making scheme. Applicants were allegedly being asked to pay bribes ranging from UGX 50,000 to as much as UGX 15 million to be considered for positions. These claims shocked many, especially as jobs in the public service are supposed to be awarded based on merit and transparency.

The arrests send a strong message that corruption, especially in public service recruitment, will not be tolerated. As investigations continue, the three suspects are expected to appear in court soon to face charges.

This case has sparked public interest and anger, with many citizens calling for more investigations across other districts to ensure that similar bribery schemes are rooted out. It also highlights the importance of whistleblowers and the role of the media in exposing corruption.

For now, the people of Mpigi await justice, hoping that this marks the beginning of a cleaner and fairer system where jobs are given based on ability—not on bribes.
