The security agencies are still scratching their heads after intelligence reports indicate that crime in Uganda is increasing at a rocket speed, We can exclusively reveal.
Intelligence sources say when ever there is a security meeting, the President is not always happy with security chiefs over what he calls increased crime in Uganda. Recently the President ordered for the Sacking of top police commanders in Kampala Metropolitan Police after they failed to control crime.
Insiders say, the President promised to crack whip on IGP, ISO boss and other top security chiefs if they don’t end criminality in Uganda. “I can not allow you stay in office when criminality is taking over the Country. If you can not end it, it will end with you,” a source quoted tough President Museveni during a hot security meeting.
Police sources say after the heated meeting, IGP Abbas Byakagaba also opened the war on police commanders across the Country over increased crimes. “These days we don’t sleep we spend day and night hunting for criminals,” Says a senior police commander adding that operations are conducted on a daily basis.
“We identified all the hop spots for criminals in Uganda and we are finishing them. Soon the population will be free from criminals, ” Says another commander adding those who try to fight back ,they are shot dead.
Police Spokesperson Kitumwa Rusoke while addressing the Nation says from 16th to date intelligence operations have arrested more than 10000 hard core criminals. ” Only in Kampala Metropolitan area, we have arrested over 700 criminals and several killing objects including guns, pangas, sharp knives have been recovered,” he says adding most suspects were arrested in areas of Kiira,Mukono,Kyengera, Bweyogerere,Katwe and Entebbe. He further says operations to end criminality were also conducted in Gulu, Aswa west, West Nile, Savannah where more than 500 were also netted.
“We had very good collaboration with communities, boda boa riders who identified hot spots, terrible criminals and we arrested them,” he says adding operations are still continuing.
