Police in Mukono district are investigating a heartbreaking murder that happened on June 10, 2025. The victim, Wayengera Godfrey, aged 45, was a respected resident of Nsuube village and the Director of Beloved Daycare and Nursery School in Nsuube. He was also a staff member of Compassion Uganda. What started as a simple journey home after attending a burial in Mbale turned into a nightmare.
Wayengera and his wife, Najabi Christine, were reportedly kidnapped by unknown people dressed in uniforms that looked like those worn by the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF). The armed men told the couple they were taking them to Mukono police station, but instead, they diverted and took them to Kyungu Road. It was there that Wayengera was brutally murdered. His wife was not killed, but she was taken and dumped at Jinja Misindye in Goma Division, where she was later rescued and is now receiving medical care.
Police were quickly alerted and began working on the case. They recorded statements from witnesses and took Wayengera’s body to Mulago City Mortuary for a postmortem examination. A vehicle believed to have been used in the crime—a Fielder with registration number UBP 520A—was recovered from Jinja Misindye and is now in police custody.
So far, no suspects have been arrested, but police are actively following leads. The community is in shock over the murder of a man known for his dedication to children and education. Authorities have promised a thorough investigation to bring the killers to justice and uncover the motive behind the horrifying crime.
