Residents of Bulenga Kikaaya village in Wakiso district were left terrified and confused after a violent incident occurred in the early hours of June 3, 2025. At around 1:45 am, a group of armed men reportedly staged an illegal roadblock and began demolishing houses on a disputed piece of land. The attackers, who were allegedly hired to evict people from the land, were armed with pangas (machetes) and hammers.
According to the police, the gang launched a brutal attack, causing panic and chaos in the neighborhood. They blocked the road, stopping movement, while at the same time destroying properties. Their mission seemed well-planned and violent, as they moved from one house to another, pulling down structures.
Fortunately, the police received timely reports from residents and quickly responded to the scene. When the police arrived, the suspects attempted to flee, and a chase followed. During the confrontation, one of the attackers, identified as Kasilye, was shot and killed. Another suspect, Kabuye Reagan, was injured during the chase and was rushed to Mulago National Referral Hospital for treatment.
In addition to the injured suspect, five other individuals were arrested at the scene. The police have since opened a case file, charging the suspects with aggravated robbery and malicious damage to property. The investigations are still ongoing as the authorities try to find out who hired the gang and why such violence was used in a land dispute.
This shocking event has left the community deeply shaken. Many residents now live in fear, worried that such attacks could happen again. Local leaders have called for calm and encouraged residents to report any suspicious activity. The police, on their part, have promised to increase patrols and ensure that justice is served.
As land wrangles continue to cause violence in parts of Uganda, this incident serves as a harsh reminder of how deadly and destructive such conflicts can become when handled unlawfully. Authorities have urged the public to settle land disputes through legal means instead of resorting to violence.
