Yesterday morning, Prof. Nuwagaba Augustus, Deputy Governor of the Bank of Uganda, delivered a keynote address at the dialogue dubbed “People Puzzle in the C-Suite,” organised by People Brand House Limited. The event brought together leaders, professionals, and business experts from across Uganda’s economy.
Prof. Nuwagaba said the dialogue was not only an opportunity to listen to other speakers but also a platform to network and exchange ideas with peers working in various sectors. He emphasized the importance of learning from one another to strengthen Uganda’s business landscape.

In his keynote, Prof. Nuwagaba focused on three critical areas that drive organisational success: human capital development, effective leadership, and strategic planning. He described these as the foundation for efficient and sustainable performance.
On human capital, he highlighted that proper management of employees reduces costs by lowering staff turnover, optimising staffing, and developing a pipeline of future leaders. This, he said, provides organisations with a significant competitive advantage.
Regarding leadership, Prof. Nuwagaba noted that strong, visionary leaders inspire their teams, navigate challenges, and set a clear direction for the future. Investing in leadership skills, he added, ensures that organisations remain agile and resilient in times of change.
Strategic planning was the third focus of his speech. He explained that a clear strategy aligns resources and efforts, helping organisations anticipate market trends, mitigate risks, and seize opportunities. Without proper planning, even talented teams can struggle to achieve goals.
He stressed that these three elements—human capital development, leadership, and strategic planning—work together to create a strong foundation for business efficiency and long-term success. Each element complements the others to maximise organisational performance.
Prof. Nuwagaba also encouraged participants to take these lessons into their workplaces, emphasizing that investing in people and planning strategically is not optional but essential for growth and sustainability.
The event received positive feedback from attendees, many of whom noted that the keynote offered practical insights that could be implemented immediately to improve business operations and staff management.
In conclusion, Prof. Nuwagaba highlighted that organisations that prioritise human capital, nurture effective leaders, and plan strategically are better positioned to thrive, adapt to change, and achieve their objectives in Uganda’s competitive economic environment.
