On December 23, 2025, the Director of the Criminal Investigations Directorate, AIGP Tom Magambo, paid a courtesy visit to the Director of Public Prosecutions, Mr. Lino Anguzu, in a move aimed at reinforcing cooperation within Uganda’s criminal justice system. The engagement was held at the headquarters of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and underscored the importance of institutional partnership in delivering justice.
The meeting provided an opportunity for both leaders to reaffirm their shared commitment to close collaboration between investigators and prosecutors. They acknowledged that strong inter-agency coordination is essential for effective investigations, sound prosecutions, and sustaining public confidence in the rule of law.
Mr. Anguzu expressed appreciation to AIGP Magambo for fostering a positive working relationship with the ODPP and commended his leadership since taking over the CID. He emphasized that teamwork between the two offices must remain a priority if tangible results are to be achieved in criminal justice administration.
The Director of Public Prosecutions further highlighted the need to focus on serious and complex cases to enhance efficiency and accountability. He noted that addressing the challenge of case backlogs requires deliberate cooperation, strategic prioritization, and consistent engagement between investigators and prosecutors.
In response, AIGP Magambo shared his vision for strengthening the CID, which centers on mindset change, proper placement of personnel, adequate provision of tools, promotions based on merit, and effective stakeholder management. He stressed that these measures are critical to improving investigative outcomes.
AIGP Magambo also pointed to Prosecution-Guided Investigations as an effective approach, especially in handling sensitive criminal matters. He observed that routine coordination meetings between CID and the ODPP have significantly improved communication and contributed to better case management.
The discussions also focused on enhancing the quality and timeliness of criminal proceedings while addressing operational and legal challenges. Both institutions agreed on the need for continuous information sharing, regular consultations, and strict adherence to the rule of law to ensure fairness and justice.
At the close of the meeting, Mr. Anguzu presented an accolade to AIGP Magambo in recognition of his exemplary leadership, professionalism, and commitment to strengthening criminal investigations. The gesture reflected the strong partnership between the two offices and their shared determination to advance justice in Uganda.
