EC Warns Public Against Using Unauthorized Website For False Claims To Provide Voter Information

Must read

The Electoral Commission (EC) of Uganda has issued a strong warning to the public about an unauthorized website, www.registry.ugtally.com, that falsely claims to help citizens locate voter registration details and polling stations. Speaking on December 31, 2025, EC Chairperson Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon clarified that the website is not affiliated with the Commission and may contain inaccurate or misleading information. Citizens are urged not to visit the site or submit personal details, as doing so could pose serious risks to privacy and security.

The Chairperson emphasized that the role of providing voter registration information digitally lies exclusively with the Electoral Commission. The official platform for checking voter registration and polling station details is www.ec.or.ug/register. Any unauthorized access, use, or distribution of voter data is illegal and punishable under Ugandan law. EC has also contacted the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) to determine the appropriate action against the operators of the website.

This warning comes as part of broader preparations for the 2026 General Elections. EC has completed critical activities, including recruitment and training of election officials, accreditation of election observers, and issuance of hard and soft copies of the photo-bearing National Voters’ Register to presidential candidates. The Commission also confirmed that Biometric Voter Verification Kits (BVVK) will be mandatory during polling, reinforcing efforts to ensure the integrity of the vote.

As the country enters the final weeks of the campaign period, the Electoral Commission appeals to all citizens, candidates, and political parties to prioritize peace, tolerance, and lawful conduct. The Commission assures the public of its commitment to free, fair, and transparent elections and calls on every Ugandan to verify voter details only through official EC channels.
