A tragic road accident occurred on 10th September 2025 at around 2:50 PM in Mukono, in front of Brivena Guest House opposite Collin Hotel (Mbale Taxi Stage) along the Jinja-Kampala highway. The accident involved a red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle (registration UDN 368R) and a white Howo Sino semi-trailer truck (registration UBR 801B/UBR 805B).
According to police reports, the motorcycle, ridden by 37-year-old Kayondo Ibrah, was following the truck from the Jinja direction towards Kampala. The motorcycle collided with the rear of the truck, causing the rider to lose control. Tragically, the passenger on the motorcycle, 41-year-old Masembe Supriano Kabali, was crushed under the rear left tires of the semi-trailer and died instantly at the scene. Kayondo, the rider, sustained serious injuries.
Police officers, led by AIP Ngobi Solomon and CPL Atero Immaculate, rushed to the scene immediately. The injured motorcycle rider was transported to Kawolo Hospital for urgent medical care, while the body of the deceased passenger was taken to Kawolo Mortuary. Both the truck and motorcycle were impounded at Mukono Police Yard pending further investigation.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the crash was caused by the motorcycle following too closely behind the truck, resulting in a head-to-rear-end collision. Authorities are conducting more inquiries to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the accident.
The shocking incident has left the local community in mourning, as road accidents continue to claim lives on busy highways. Police are urging motorists to maintain safe distances and drive cautiously to prevent similar tragedies.
The driver of the truck remains in police custody as investigations continue. Officers are appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward and assist with inquiries.
Road safety remains a growing concern in Uganda, and this tragic accident serves as a reminder of the dangers of reckless driving and failure to maintain safe distances on highways. Authorities hope that awareness campaigns and stricter enforcement will help prevent future accidents.
