Authorities in Kagadi District have arrested thirteen people for allegedly presenting forged academic documents during the ongoing recruitment into the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF). The arrests were made after officials discovered that some applicants had submitted fake certificates in an attempt to qualify for the exercise.
Security officials say the suspects were caught during the document verification process. Recruitment officers carefully checked each candidate’s academic papers, and several were found to be forged. The individuals were immediately taken into custody for further investigation.
The UPDF has been carrying out recruitment drives across the country to bring in new soldiers, but they have repeatedly warned applicants against using fake documents. According to the army, such acts not only undermine the recruitment process but also show a lack of integrity expected from those seeking to serve in the forces.
Local authorities in Kagadi have condemned the incident, saying it is both illegal and shameful for individuals to try and join the army through dishonest means. The suspects are expected to face charges related to forgery and fraud.
The UPDF has reminded the public that anyone caught presenting false documents will be prosecuted and permanently barred from joining the army. Officials have urged all future applicants to present genuine academic papers and meet the set requirements to avoid arrest and legal trouble.
