Four UPDF officers have been charged with the murder of Benon Nsimenta, a church leader in Kasese District in western Uganda.
Benon Nsimenta a Lay reader of Kogere Church of Uganda, was shot dead while riding on a motorcycle together with his wife Allen to the garden along Karungibati on Hima-Kasese road.
The charged who have been identified as Abraham Lokwap aged 23, Joel Atim, Talent Akampulira and Jackson Nyero appeared before Mountain Division Court chaired by Lt Col Felix Nyero sitting at Karusandara in Kasese.
The UPDF spokes person Brig, Richard Karemire confirmed their appearance before court and charges against them.
“The Mountain Division Court is sitting in Kasese and has charged four UPDF personnel with murder of Benon Nsimenta.” Karemire said.
According to Nsimenta’s wife, her husband was shot dead by security personnel guarding Hima-kasese highway which is under construction.
The UPDF soldier tried to stop the Lay reader for flouting COVID-19 guidelines since the President disallowed two people on a motorcycle.The soldier also accused of not wearing the mask.
The Lay reader however, didn’t stop which prompted the gunman to fire bullets killing him instantly.
