In a shocking turn of events on the evening of June 2, 2025, a group of over 20 unidentified individuals attacked the District Police Commander’s (DPC) office at Wakiso Police Station. The incident, which occurred around 5:20 PM, involved assailants dressed in clothing that closely resembled military uniforms. According to the police signal from Corporal Opwonya Justine, the group arrived in three vehicles — a white Toyota Drone with registration UBR 647B, an army green Toyota Drone UBG 041U, and a Kia saloon car UBB 533Q.
The attackers reportedly stormed the DPC’s office with the intent to forcefully secure the release of a suspect who was being held in custody. Preliminary reports suggest the motive was related to a civil dispute involving the suspect. Despite pressure, the DPC stood firm and refused to release the individual, prompting the attackers to escalate the situation.
Fortunately, the police acted quickly. A distress signal was sent to the control room, prompting the deployment of three 999 emergency patrol cars. Neighboring territorial police units also responded immediately. In a show of strength and coordination, a joint operation between the Uganda Police and the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) successfully intercepted the suspects.
The security operation was swift and well-coordinated. The three vehicles used by the attackers were stopped and secured — including the suspicious army-green vehicle, raising further concerns about possible impersonation of military personnel. The Regional Police Commander (RPC) for Kampala Metropolitan North rushed to the scene to take control of the ongoing investigation and maintain order.
This incident has raised serious questions about the growing trend of armed individuals attempting to interfere with police operations. Authorities have promised to conduct a full investigation and bring all culprits to justice. More details are expected to be released as the investigation continues.
The swift and brave response of the police and army personnel undoubtedly prevented what could have been a very dangerous situation from escalating further. The public has been urged to remain calm and report any suspicious activity to nearby security personnel.
