Fresh Polls Set for 73 Areas as Uganda Electoral Commission Moves to Complete Elections

Must read

The Electoral Commission of Uganda has announced that it will conduct repeat and residual elections on Tuesday, 17th February 2026. The exercise will take place in districts, city divisions, and municipalities where earlier elections were either not held or were not completed due to various challenges. The Commission says this step is important to make sure that all affected areas are fully represented and that the electoral process is properly concluded.

A total of 73 areas across the country will take part in this fresh round of voting. In some locations, elections were disrupted by logistical problems, while in others the process could not be finalized for administrative reasons. The Commission has assured the public that better preparations have been made this time. Election materials have been organized, officials deployed, and security personnel assigned to maintain peace and order throughout the exercise. Leaders from the Commission are encouraging voters to cooperate with officials and follow guidelines to ensure a smooth and transparent process.

One of the key positions to be filled is the District Chairperson of Butebo District. This role is crucial in overseeing local government programs, supervising development projects, and representing the interests of residents at the district level. Citizens in all affected areas are being urged to come out in large numbers and cast their votes peacefully. The Commission has emphasized that participating in these repeat elections is not only a right but also a responsibility, as it strengthens democracy and ensures that every community has a voice in leadership.
