From Data to Development!! Uganda’s Path to Middle-Income Status Through the UNHS 2024

Must read

The dissemination of the UNHS Report 2024 directly aligns with several of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goals 1 through 8. These include No Poverty, Zero Hunger, Good Health and Well-being, Quality Education, Gender Equality, Clean Water and Sanitation, Affordable and Clean Energy, and Decent Work and Economic Growth, among others. The report provides critical data and insights that are foundational in tracking progress towards these goals and identifying areas requiring more targeted interventions.

According to @UBOS_ED, the release of the #UNHSREPORT2024 is both timely and essential in guiding government planning and policy formulation. It underscores the strategic importance of continuous investment by the Government of Uganda (@GovUganda) in statistical production and development. These investments have enabled data-driven decision-making, which is vital for effective governance and sustainable development.

Hon. Amos Lugoloobi (@mofpedU) highlighted some of the key findings and implications of the report. Notably, national poverty levels have declined from 20.3% to 16.1%, a significant improvement that reflects the impact of various government initiatives. Central to this progress is the Parish Development Model (PDM), which is described as the principal engine designed to uplift all Ugandans into middle-income status. This model focuses on grassroots economic transformation and aims to ensure inclusive growth across the country.

Furthermore, the report emphasizes the importance of food security, not just for subsistence but also as a commercial opportunity. The government encourages citizens to look beyond self-sufficiency and engage in value addition to agricultural produce. This approach is expected to stimulate rural economies, generate employment, and enhance household incomes, thereby accelerating Uganda’s journey toward achieving the SDGs and realizing middle-income status for all.
