The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, arrived in Beijing, China on Tuesday for a series of high-level military engagements. His visit is aimed at strengthening military cooperation between Uganda and China.

Upon arrival, Gen Kainerugaba was received at the airport by senior Chinese military officers and generals, signaling the importance of the visit. He is accompanied by a delegation that includes Major General Dan Kakono, the Artillery Division Commander, and Major General Felix Busizoori, the 4th Division Commander.
On Wednesday, the delegation visited the China National Aero-Technology Import & Export Corporation (CATIC), a state-owned defence company specializing in aviation products and technology. During the visit, Gen Kainerugaba was guided through the facility and shown the latest advancements in aviation equipment by the company’s Vice President.

The tour provided the CDF with firsthand knowledge of China’s cutting-edge military and aviation technology, highlighting opportunities for collaboration between the two countries. Such exchanges are seen as a step toward modernizing Uganda’s military capabilities.During his official visit, Gen Kainerugaba is expected to attend a military conference alongside counterparts from several other countries.
He will also hold talks with his Chinese counterpart and participate in a series of high-level bilateral meetings aimed at enhancing defence cooperation.Uganda and China have a long-standing relationship that includes collaboration in military training, peace support operations, and technical assistance. This visit continues the tradition of strong diplomatic and military ties cultivated since 1986.Since becoming CDF, General Kainerugaba has prioritized expanding Uganda’s military partnerships with international allies. He has previously led official visits to countries such as Russia, Rwanda, Algeria, Mozambique, and the Democratic Republic of Congo to strengthen defence relations.In addition to international travel, Gen Kainerugaba has hosted foreign military representatives from countries like France, the United Kingdom, and the United States in Kampala, further cementing Uganda’s global military collaborations.
