From 2nd to 10th June 2025, eligible members of the Youth, Older Persons, and Persons with Disabilities communities are encouraged to participate in an important democratic process—nominating candidates for the Village Special Interest Groups (SIGs) Committees.
This nomination period marks a key milestone in the SIGs Roadmap for the 2025/2026 General Elections. It’s a vital opportunity to ensure that the voices of underrepresented groups are heard and reflected in local decision-making.
Why It Matters
Village SIGs Committees play a crucial role in advocating for the rights, needs, and interests of special interest groups at the grassroots level. Their work helps bridge the gap between communities and national leadership, making sure that inclusive governance becomes a reality.
That’s why it’s essential for dedicated, responsible, and community-minded individuals to come forward whether to stand for nomination or to nominate someone capable and committed.
Who Can Get Involved?
If you belong to one of the eligible groups Youth, Older Persons, or Persons with Disabilities this is your moment to lead change. Nominate someone you trust, or step up to be nominated yourself. Your involvement is a powerful act of civic engagement that helps shape the future of your community.
How to Participate
Nomination guidelines and forms are available on the Electoral Commission website: ec.or.ug. There, you’ll find all the details you need, including who is eligible, how to complete the forms, and where to submit them.
Your Voice Matters
Inclusive leadership starts with participation. Get informed. Get involved. Let’s work together to build a fair and representative future one village at a time.
