Uganda is celebrating a big success after the 12th edition of the Uganda Film Festival (UFF) 2025 came to an exciting close. The event, which took place from May 26th to June 6th, brought together thousands of Ugandans to honour local talent, creativity, and storytelling. Speaking at a special breakfast held at the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) headquarters in Bugolobi, the Executive Director, Hon. Nyombi Thembo, thanked everyone who made the festival a success.
Hon. Thembo praised the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance for its continued support and leadership in building Uganda’s creative industry. He said the Ministry’s guidance has laid a strong foundation for the film sector to grow and reach international standards.
The Director also extended deep appreciation to all sponsors and partners, including Multichoice Uganda, MTN Uganda, Nation Media Group, CITI Bank, Fenon Events, Solfit Solutions, Legends, Cinema UG, film schools, cinemas, and many others. He said their commitment and belief in Uganda’s film industry helped make the festival bigger and better.
This year’s festival was more vibrant than ever, with over 30,000 Ugandans taking part in film screenings, training sessions, workshops, and forums. The UCC Director said the event created a powerful platform for learning, sharing ideas, networking, and celebrating Ugandan talent.
To the winners of the festival, Hon. Thembo gave his warm congratulations. He said their hard work and creativity are helping to promote Uganda’s beauty, culture, and rich heritage. The films not only entertain but also boost tourism and create jobs, especially for Uganda’s youth. With Uganda having one of the youngest populations in the world, the film industry can play a big role in shaping the country’s future.
As he closed his speech, the Executive Director encouraged everyone to keep supporting the creative industry. He reminded the audience that films are more than entertainment they are powerful tools for telling our stories, building identity, and driving development. He promised that UCC will continue working with partners to make future festivals even bigger.
Uganda’s film industry has shown that it can shine, and with continued support, its light will only grow brighter. The 12th Uganda Film Festival was not just an event it was a celebration of who we are and where we are going.
