IGG Recovers Shs 2bn From Corrupt Government Officials

The office of the Inspector General of Government (IGG) has recovered over Shs 2bn from Corrupt government officials in a period of six Months, Spyreports has learnt.

This shocking information that can put trust in the office of IGG as a measure of ending corruption in Uganda was revealed by IGG Justice lady Aisha Naluzze while addressing the Nation on the war against corruption at Media Center in Kampala.

She stated that her office in that last six months, Shs 2.21 billions which were misappropriated . She further says that Shs over 844m was paid to public officials who had been denied salaries and gratuity and pensions for failing to pay bribes to government officials. During her report, she revealed that her office also registered 1516 cases and sanctioned 1152 making 75% . She added that 308 corruption cases and 330 Ombudsman matters were investigated among of them were 14 high profile corruption cases involving high government workers. “At least 378 out of 1392 recommendations were implemented during the period, while 8 systems reviews were conducted to address structural weaknesses in public institutions,” She says.

The Inspectorate also Concluded 246 breach of code investigations and 927 verifications and generated 27 cases through intelligence led operations, reinforcing the shift towards proactive enforcement.
