This visit follows a series of violent attacks in the area, which have left residents and local authorities on edge. The IGP, accompanied by a team of senior police officers, is scheduled to meet with regional leaders to discuss strategies for improving security and countering the recent surge in criminal activities.

The recent attacks on Kasese have raised alarm among both residents and security officials. Armed assailants have reportedly targeted various locations within the district, causing unrest and fear among the community. These incidents have brought regional security to the forefront, prompting swift action from the police leadership to address the emerging threats. In response to these attacks, the IGP is leading a team that includes AIGP Tom Magambo, the Director of the Criminal Investigations Division (CID); AIGP Mwesigwa Frank, the Director of Operations; AIGP John Nuwagira, the Commander of the Field Force Unit (FFU); and AIGP Bamunoba, the Chief Political Commissar. SCP Charles Asaba, the Deputy Director of Crime Intelligence, is also part of the delegation.

The meeting is expected to focus on the recent rise in violent incidents, including the attacks by armed assailants, and explore ways to prevent further attacks. The police leadership will likely review strategies for improved intelligence gathering, rapid response teams, and better coordination with local authorities and communities. With tensions running high, it is crucial that the police and local leaders collaborate closely to restore calm and ensure that such attacks do not escalate further.

IGP Byakagaba’s visit highlights the government’s commitment to tackling security issues head-on. It also reflects the urgency with which the police are approaching the rising threats in the region. Local leaders, who have been vocal about the need for greater security, are hopeful that the visit will result in concrete measures that can help prevent future attacks and enhance public safety in Kasese and the surrounding areas.

The Kasese region, known for its peaceful communities, has found itself grappling with an unexpected security crisis. The government’s swift response, led by the police leadership, is seen as a critical step in quelling the violence and restoring peace to this once tranquil part of Uganda. As the discussions unfold, the focus will undoubtedly be on fostering cooperation between the police and the local population to ensure a lasting solution to the recent security challenges.
