Must read

The Kampala Metropolitan Police has intensified intelligence-led operations across the city and surrounding areas to dismantle criminal networks and tackle rising crime. The recent operations targeted areas notorious for phone snatching, bag theft, and opium use, resulting in multiple arrests and seizures of illegal substances.

In Old Kampala Division, an operation on the night of November 3, 2025, focused on areas such as Wagaba Zone, Rubaga Parish, Owino, Kisenyi, Musajjalumbwa, Usafi, and Kafumbe Mukasa. The police, working alongside local leaders, arrested 75 suspects. The arrested individuals face charges ranging from possession of dangerous weapons and narcotics to being in a building with intent to commit a felony. Seized items included opium, and the suspects are currently detained pending court proceedings.

Kira Road Division also conducted a disruptive operation on November 4, targeting opium-smoking hotspots in Ntinda. Thirteen suspects were arrested for attacking citizens along bypasses and engaging in drug-related activities. Similarly, Kira Police Division focused on Bweyogerere Central Zone on November 3, where seven suspects were arrested for possessing narcotics. Another operation in Kitikutwe and Kungu Zone the same night led to the arrest of 12 more suspects and the recovery of rolled and unrolled opium, as well as a panga suspected to be used in robberies.

Nansana Division carried out a joint intelligence operation in Nabweru, Kiwogo, and Ganda on November 3, responding to complaints about phone snatching and burglaries. Police arrested 34 suspects in possession of narcotics such as opium and marijuana, which were likely intended for criminal activities like simple robberies and assaults. The drugs and other evidence were handed over to Lubigi Police Station for further processing.

On November 4, Jinja Road Division conducted a similar operation in Kinawataka, Mbuya 1 Parish, Nakawa Division, arresting 16 male suspects from a black spot known for criminal gatherings and opium use. The suspects were charged with public nuisance, and the police pledged to continue targeting such criminal hideouts.

Kajjansi Division also carried out operations on November 3 in Bweya, Jjanyi, and Kitende A, areas identified as black spots for early-morning thefts targeting phones, bags, and other valuables. Police arrested 21 suspects and recovered narcotics, including 289 sticks of marijuana, folding papers, marijuana seeds, stems, and UGX 35,800 believed to be proceeds from sales. The arrests highlighted the connection between group crime and drug influence in these areas.

The Kampala Metropolitan Police says these intelligence-led operations have been successful and will continue. By focusing on known black spots and working closely with local leaders, the authorities aim to disrupt criminal networks, prevent crimes, and keep communities safe.
