The police at Kira Road have apprehended a notorious criminal who has been terrorizing both residents and commuters in areas surrounding the Northern Bypass, Lower Kazinga in Kiwatule, and Metroplex in Naalya.
The suspect, identified as Matwa Gideon, 35, is a resident of Kazinga Zone, Kiwatule Parish, Nakawa Division in Kampala District. His arrest followed a robbery incident in which he allegedly stole mobile phones from a victim, Iraphasa John, near the fish ponds in Kazinga Zone.
According to eyewitnesses, the victim courageously pursued the suspect, who attempted to escape by diving into a nearby stream. Law enforcement was promptly notified and, with the support of UPDF soldiers, managed to apprehend the suspect.
Upon his arrest, police recovered two smartphones valued at Shs 1.5 million. During questioning, Matwa confessed to operating in the areas around the Northern Bypass, Lower Kazinga, and Metroplex in Naalya. He is also reportedly linked to previous cases of burglary and theft in Lower Kazinga.
Matwa Gideon is currently detained at Kiwatule Police Station and is awaiting arraignment. Investigations into the case remain ongoing.
