JUST IN!! Drunk Police Officer Arrested After Shooting Rapidly At A Funeral Service In Ntungamo

Must read

Tension gripped Rwengoma Beneficiation Center in Ntungamo District after a police officer allegedly went on a violent rampage under the influence of alcohol. The incident occurred in the early hours of 7th October 2025, around 2:10 a.m., and has since shocked residents of Nyakinombe Village, where the events unfolded.

According to the police report compiled by ASP Odong Tobia, the Zonal Commander of the Mineral Police, Ankole Region, the suspect, identified as No. 68349 Police Constable (PC) Ochola Joe, is attached to the Field Force Unit (FFU) Rwizi Region. He was on a special duty at Rwengoma Beneficiation Center as part of an ongoing operation against illegal mining and mineral smuggling in the area.

However, instead of fulfilling his duty, the officer reportedly consumed excessive alcohol and later picked up his rifle, gun number 564810779. He then went to a nearby funeral gathering in Nyakinombe Village, where he started firing live bullets in the air. Witnesses say the gunfire created panic and fear among mourners and residents, forcing many to flee for safety.

The report further reveals that after the shooting, PC Ochola allegedly set up an illegal roadblock, stopping a vehicle with registration number UDJ 592U. He is said to have robbed the driver of 1,000 shillings, turning what began as a drunken disturbance into a serious case of attempted murder and aggravated robbery.

Police investigations confirmed that the suspect fired seven bullets, though no cartridges were recovered from the scene. He was later disarmed and arrested by his fellow officers before more harm could be done. The scene was visited and documented by Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO) Ntungamo, and statements were recorded from key witnesses.

The District Police Commander (DPC) of Ntungamo was immediately informed, and the suspect is currently detained at Ntungamo Central Police Station as investigations continue. Authorities have confirmed that the suspect will face appropriate charges once inquiries are complete.

The Uganda Police Force has since reassured the public that such acts of indiscipline will not be tolerated within the force. They also commended the officers who acted quickly to arrest the suspect and prevent further danger.

Residents have expressed relief that calm was restored, but many remain shaken by the incident. The police continue to urge officers on duty to maintain discipline and uphold professionalism, especially when handling sensitive operations in the community.
