Just In!! EC Opens Nominations for Municipality and City Division Leaders Across Uganda

Must read

The Electoral Commission (EC) has officially opened nominations for all candidates aspiring to contest for the positions of Municipality or City Division Chairpersons, councillors, and special interest group councillors at the Municipality or city division level. The nomination period will run from 8th to 10th September, giving aspiring leaders a three-day window to submit their papers at the EC offices in all districts across Uganda. In Kampala, candidates will be expected to submit their nomination documents at the EC offices located within the respective city divisions.

The EC has emphasized that those coming forward for nominations must ensure their forms are fully completed and accurate. Candidates are required to have paid the necessary nomination fees, collected all required signatures from supporters, and verified that all information provided is correct. Following all the rules set by the EC during the nomination process is mandatory, and any errors or missing information could jeopardize a candidate’s eligibility.

Importantly, the EC has made it clear that no campaigning, rallies, or public promotions are allowed during the nomination period. The focus during these three days is solely on verifying and submitting nomination documents correctly. By enforcing these rules, the EC aims to ensure a fair, orderly, and transparent process for all aspiring leaders.

With the nomination exercise underway, candidates across Uganda are preparing to take the first official step towards representing their communities at the municipal and city division levels. This process marks an important stage in Uganda’s local governance, giving citizens the opportunity to choose leaders who will make a difference in their districts and cities.
