A shocking incident of aggravated robbery has left a police officer seriously injured after he was attacked by four armed men in the early hours of Saturday morning, 10th May 2025. The victim, Detective Corporal Saturday Sebastian, aged 38, is currently receiving treatment at Rugarama Hospital after sustaining deep cuts to his head, arms, and shoulder.
According to the report filed at Rubanda Central Police Station (CPS) under case number RUBA CRB 165/2025, the incident occurred at around 2:00 a.m. at Ihanga Trading Centre, located in Ihanga Parish, Bubaare Sub-county in Rubanda District.
Detective Corporal Sebastian, who works as a Scene of Crime Officer (SOCO) attached to Rubanda CPS, was riding his motorcycle registration number UFZ 316X from Kabale Town, heading back to his station. Upon reaching Ihanga Trading Centre, he was suddenly blocked by two motorcycles, each carrying two men — a total of four assailants armed with pangas (machetes).
The thugs ordered the officer to surrender his motorcycle, but he resisted. In an effort to escape, he branched into a nearby home for safety. Unfortunately, the assailants chased him down and attacked him violently, inflicting several serious wounds.
The noise and commotion drew the attention of people in the nearby home, who rushed out to help. Sensing danger, the thugs quickly fled the scene, escaping on their motorcycles. However, before leaving, they managed to grab the victim’s bag, which contained a mobile phone, and left him bleeding and in critical condition.
Thankfully, a group of Good Samaritans at the scene quickly arranged for the officer to be transported to Rugarama Hospital, where he was admitted for urgent medical attention.
A team of police officers from Rubanda CPS, led by District SOCO No. 36743 Detective Sergeant Mbabazi Robert, promptly visited the scene and documented evidence. They later confirmed that the victim was found with multiple cut wounds and that his bag and phone had been stolen.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident and are working to track down the culprits. The case has been treated as a serious aggravated robbery and updates will be provided as inquiries progress.
This disturbing incident has raised concerns about rising insecurity, especially attacks targeting law enforcement officers. The police are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist with the investigations.
